Homage will be paid to the rich history of The Ogden Newspapers Half Marathon Classic Run and Walk when the event is held for the 37th time on Friday, May 24 and Saturday, May 25, in Wheeling, West Virginia. The race committee again has labeled the Ogden Classic as a "destination weekend" for runners and walkers throughout the United States. While Saturday is the big day for the Half Marathon and 5K runs and walks, the festivities actually get under way Friday, May 25, with a full slate of activities. The Friday schedule begins at 6:45 p.m. with the Ogden Tiny Tot Trot, sponsored by Ohio Valley Parent Magazine. This event welcomes youngsters ages 5 and under to take part in a dash to the finish line over the last 100 yards of the Half Marathon course. At 7:15 p.m., the Fun Run begins at the top of Wheeling Hill and covers the final mile of the Half Marathon layout. Also a non-competitive event, the Fun Run is for children 12 and under. No prizes are awarded and the $10 entry fee includes a race T-shirt. Pre-registered participants are guaranteed a T-shirt. Parents are encouraged to run with their children at no cost or pay $10 and also receive a T-shirt. Sizes and quantities of T-shirts are limited at the event. Capping off the festivities on opening night will be the annual Ogden Mile, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the top of Wheeling Hill. This downhill course is regarded as the fastest mile layout in America and has featured sub four-minute miles nearly every year the Ogden Mile has been held. On Saturday, the starting times are 7:30 a.m. for the Half Marathon Walk; 8 a.m. for the Half Marathon Run; and 8:15 a.m. for the 5K Run and Walk.Winners will be announced at the results ceremony, which begins at approximately 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 25, at the Heritage Port Stage. Cash awards and certificates will be mailed later after verification.
